Melody is a content creator that evokes purposeful style and originality in every piece she produces. Fresh off our recent collaboration with the beautiful Léo et Violette, we wanted to get a greater insight into the person behind the flawlessly curated content
A former 'Work of the week' (as shown above) Melody's content is consistently well received across the Whalar platform. Although based in Singapour, she never stops moving, which has a direct effect on her content. Through this, she is able to establish consistency of aesthetic, while maintaining subject diversity. It is this balance that results in content that gains both traction and a loyal, engaged following. Naturally, her collaborations are of high quality and remain authentic to her artistic intent.
Where do you find your inspiration?
I find them everywhere, but mostly when I travel. For instance, I just returned from an amazing trip I'm Peru and saw so many beautiful experiences first hand for the first time. The whole trip was a completely inspirational experience and one I will never forget.
How do you decide what to share and what to keep private?
I definitely keep a large part of my personal life private, after being in social media for so long, I have learned to filter. I’ve seen people who simply share too much and allowed relationships to get into the way and become public. It's made me realise I never want to be in that position, I prefer my content to do the talking.
What is the best-kept secret in Singapore?
It's no secret really, but we have amazing hawker food you can get for just a few dollars. I mean, eating delicious, greasy food while being a bit of a sweaty mess is kind of fun, isn't it?
Any tips and tricks you'd like to share with other creators?
Always make content you love. Don't do it for the sake of it, or for the brand. If a brand is asking you to do something that doesn't represent you, then it's not a brand you should be working with.
What camera and editing software do you use?
I am always drawn back to my old Canon 5DM2 and I edit my images on photoshop and VSCO.
How would you describe your aesthetics?
I like to incorporate different styles. However, if I have to be specific, definitely a bit bohemian, vintage, and a little minimal.
Tell us something no one knows about you.
I am Singaporean Chinese but I actually can't speak Chinese!
What's been your favourite piece of work to date?
I went to Los Angeles for a project for Chloé and shot some images for their fragrance launch. It was amazing and I completely well in love with the content we were able to produce from the collaboration.
The best thing about being a fashion blogger?
I don't see myself as one... but I love that I get to pursue my other passions like cooking and, in particular, running my brand, ME Studio - www.amestudio.co
Best people to follow on Instagram?
What are your ambitions for the future?
I'd love to open my own agency and restaurant.
If you could give one piece of advice to your younger self, what would it be?
Things eventually work it's way out and everything does happen for a reason.
Something you couldn't live without.
Without a doubt - My camera. My phone.
