Laureen Uy is a fashion and travel creator from the Philippines, where her website Break My Style is the number one most viewed fashion blog... Which makes her kind of a big deal (almost 900k Instagram can't be wrong). We caught up with her for a quick fire Q+A to find out what makes the Manila native tick.
How did you get started?
I wanted a visual diary for myself 7 years ago where I can look back on my life and know how my personal style evolved throughout the years.
Where do you find inspiration?
Everywhere. I read a lot of magazines and websites but I see that I find inspiration everywhere. Every time I travel, every time I meet new people, every time I see new colour combinations, cute places, etc.
How do you decide what to share and what to keep private?
It's really just about balancing your public and private life. If I know it's worth sharing and that my followers will get inspired, I'll definitely post it.
Any tips and tricks?
Just be unique and post material you think is worth posting. Never settle for a so-so content.
What camera and editing software do you use?
I use a Sony A7ii with Zeiss Batis 25mm prime lens. For my Instagram feed, I use Afterlight and Snapseed.
How would you describe your aesthetics?
I like to be quirky and eclectic.
Tell us something no one knows about you.
I used to be part of the basketball varsity team back when I was in high school.
What’s been your favourite piece of work to date?
I guess that time I got invited to Tel Aviv and Jerusalem and got to see so many beautiful things I didn't think I'd see my entire life-- like the dead sea and the holy church of the sepulchre. I really enjoy traveling and I'm lucky I get to do this with my work.
Best thing about being a creator?
You're free to create a beautiful piece from scratch. It's a nice feeling to have knowing you thought of everything.
If you could give one piece of advice to your younger self, what would it be?
Appreciate things and don't rush to be older.
