Based in Los Angeles, blogger and jewelry designer Stella Simona (@stellasimona) values authenticity in her content and is inspired by all the moments that have made her life beautiful.
How and why did you get into content creation?
I’m a very visual person by nature. I’ve always created content for my brands @amarilo and @haatichai. However since having my son in 2016, I wanted to take a moment to journal all the moments big and small which inevitably led me to starting my personal blog in 2018. After having Noah, I realized that so much has happened every year of my life and I never really took a moment to take it all in. Inspired by all the moments that have made my life beautiful, I utilize my blog space to document my journey. Content creation has become a visual diary of my life.
Where do you find your inspiration?
My inspiration is my daily life - what music i’m listening to, where I am traveling, etc. I also gather inspiration from the people I follow and I do spend a lot of time browsing on pinterest. No matter what it is, I like to visually interpret it in my aesthetic.
How do you decide what to share and what to keep private?
Really good question. A few things -- I am actively working to be more present so there are a lot of intimate moments with my loved ones or friends I keep to myself so I can enjoy the moment which has been a very conscious shift. In regards to business, it’s important to find the balance between offering too much and at the same time staying vulnerable and real. Every single time before I publish a new post, I ask myself if the content is authentic, relatable while also contributing to the voice and story of my brand.
What is the best kept secret in Los Angeles?
Los Angeles has so many secrets. I’ve been located in Downtown Los Angeles for 10 years and i’m still finding new gems. One big tip is if you are ever looking to adventure here and not get overwhelmed by the hussle and bussle, come visit on a Sunday. The parking meters are all free and there is usually less traffic. I would recommend visiting the flower mart, trying one of our many amazing restaurants like Badmaash, and then leaving your day open to walk around and discover what’s in all the little pockets of DTLA. You will really see a different side of Downtown on Sundays.
Any tips and tricks you'd like to share with other creators?
Get personal and create content that reflects your personality. Individuals most importantly want to get to know the real you. From a beautiful image to a unique caption, it’s all about understanding that this is a space for you to connect.
What camera and editing software do you use?
A lot of the time, I use my personal iPhone as my professional camera isn’t always around when I find myself inspired to capture a moment. Otherwise, I shoot with a Canon 7d and I love editing with Lightroom.
How would you describe your aesthetics?
In regards to my style, I like to dress tonal, in timeless silhouettes, with an overall effortless vibe. When producing content, I am inspired by the beauty of the moment whether it is an object or an activity which I always try to capture in each photo. I want to evoke an emotion which i’d like to think is my signature and what my followers connect with best.
Tell us something no one knows about you.
I won the spelling bee in 3rd grade and went to nationals and I speak fluent Bengali.
What's been your favorite piece of work to date?
It’s hard to narrow it down, I have a connection to everything i’ve produced. I really love my blog post “My Uniform” as it highlights one of my mantras “less is more”. No matter how much time passes, this post is timeless.
